The Association Green IT was created in March 2022 from the Green IT.fr collective, which had existed for several years. The association is made up of expert volunteers who act for a society where digital technology is used in a sustainable way. To do this, they need the participation of all components of society.
The association Green IT provides its technical expertise to civil society to help it orient digital technology towards practices that respect the living, i.e. planetary and human limits. The association was created in response to the need to protect nature, the living environment, water, air, soil, sites and landscapes, human health, participating in the fight against pollution and nuisances, and allowing access for all to digital technology through inclusion and the fight against illiteracy. In 2024, the association is structured around 7 working groups:
