The NGO Ecodigital emerged after several studies on the negative impact caused to the environment with the disposal of computer equipment in a state of scrap to nature. There were several surveys on technological advancement in Brazil and we came to an unsatisfactory conclusion:
- 86% of offline equipment is scrapped and dumped in landfills, thus causing serious damage to nature.
- 4% are donated or sold to the companies' own employees.
- 10% is reused by companies with the execution of upgrades.
From there came the idea of creating an NGO, where we could with everyone's help carry out a "Project for Digital Inclusion and Recycling of Computer Equipment", thus contributing to the preservation of nature, promoting the social and digital inclusion of young people from disadvantaged communities with the reuse of computer equipment. Its teaches how to disassemble, separate the parts, catalog, diagnose defects, repair and reassemble the equipment.
The rest that is not used is sent to the recycling market as plastic, iron, aluminum, etc. Materials considered hazardous are sent to companies that give the correct destination according to ISO 14001 standards, thus issuing a certificate of correct disposal to the project's partner companies.
