FIfF e.V. - Forum Computer Scientists for Peace and Social Responsibility

Association of committed and critical experts in science and practice in the field of computer science. The FIfF was founded in 1984 from a historical situation when it was necessary to break the silence of a guild that was so significantly involved in the development of automated and informatised warfare.

The founding members openly resisted the NATO double decision, they wanted information and communication technology to be used primarily as a means of international understanding. Since then, its goals have differentiated, but its values are still the same. It wants that information technology is at the service of a world worth living. Therefore :

 - It warns the public about developments in its field, which it considers harmful;

- It counters potential dangers with its own constructive ideas

 - It is fighting against the use of information technology for control and surveillance

- It is committed to disarmament of computer science in military applications;

 - It promotes the development of ecologically compatible economic cycles through information technology;

 - It supports the humane design of work processes

 - It is committed to equal rights for people with disabilities in the design and use of information technology

- It is working against the discrimination of women in computer science;

 - It defends people against any racist and sexist use or other discriminatory use of information technology;

 - It opposes the predominance of economics with a humane and ecological orientation.

 It is composed of about 700 committed people from science and practice. These poeaple are specialists in computer science and information technology.They are also thinking about the consequences in their work. They know that not all problems are technically solvable. They welcome everyone who uses information technology or think about their social role

To all those who deal with computer science and information technology -- in training at work or after, in science and practice – FIfF e.V. wants to offer a forum for a critical and living debate. Its work is coordinated by the FIfF Board. It cooperates with numerous domestic and foreign initiatives and organisations. It documents its work in numerous publications. The critical computer newspaper FIfF communication is published quarterly.
