Global Witness

Global Witness works to hold companies and governments to account for their destruction of the environment their disregard for the planet and their failure to protect human rights via campaigns to:

- Curb the flow of finance enabling destruction of climate-critical tropical forests

- Challenge industry efforts to present fossil gas as climate-friendly

- End corporate complicity in environmental and human rights abuses

 - Protect land and environmental defenders standing up to climate-wrecking industries

- Tackle the spread of division, hate and disinformation on digital platforms

- End corporate corruption and ensure companies in the natural resource sector can no longer operate above the law Among their campaigns, two specifically address the impact of digital technology in the world:

- Digital Threats : Billionaire Big Tech CEOs are putting profit above people and planet.

Their corporations hoover up our data and distort our social media feeds. Their algorithms amplify climate disinformation and hate. And their toxic business models hinder climate action and put minority and marginalised communities in danger.

- Transition minerals : The need to phase-out fossil fuels has seen a rise in the demand for minerals that are critical to the energy transition. But mining is a dirty business, with a long legacy of exploitation, human rights abuses and environmental damage. It is campaigning to make the companies extracting and processing transition minerals put people and the planet before profit Global Witness has offices in the United Kingdom, United States, Brussels and China and work with partners across the world - from land and environmental defenders in Latin America to forest communities in Papua New Guinea - on its investigations and advocacy for change.
