The organization Resource Matters was born out of an observation: the disconcerting contrast between the immense wealth of natural resources of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the lack of socio-economic development of its population. Resource Matters' activities are structured around the following five areas:
- Research, documentation and critical analysis of policies, laws, natural resource governance standards and practices.
- Promoting transparency in the natural resources sector and accountability of decision-makers who are able to influence their management.
- Facilitating the exchange of expertise between actors working in the various sectors of natural resources.
- Strengthening the skills of actors working to improving the governance of natural resources.
- Raising awareness and mobilizing the population, but also political, economic and social actors on issues related to natural resources.
